| Bulls hope Gordon can help end Kings' reign
You can forget those rumors about the Bulls going after Pau Gasol before the trading deadline after the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and two first-round draft picks. So for now, the Bulls will go forward with their current roster on the heels of some schedule changes. Interim coach Jim Boylan chose not to bring the team home after the 83-67 loss at Minnesota on Wednesday. He also canceled the Bulls' scheduled Thursday practice in Minnesota, from where the Bulls flew to Sacramento for a game tonight against the Kings. .
Man who claimed ‘mercy killing’ portrayed as master deceiver
Information presented to a Multnomah County grand jury paints a much different portrait of John L. Roberts than the one that emerged last week. Roberts, 51, who was indicted Friday in the murder of his wife, Virginia Roberts, was described by some family members as a loving husband who fulfilled his terminally-ill wife's last request by shooting her in the head. But not everyone supported this image of Roberts. Some warned anonymously on The Outlook's web site and in interviews with a reporter that he is a skilled manipulator, and that his defense was untenable. A "memorandum of law" released on Monday by the Multnomah County district attorney's office concurs. The memorandum alleges there was no evidence that Virginia Roberts wanted to die. It further alleges that Roberts has engaged in elaborate acts of deceit in the past, that he had drinking and financial problems and that he was an unfaithful husband.
More caution, less ego can be difference between life, death
Personally, I believe we could use a little more of it. The second avalanche death in eight days occurred over the weekend in the backcountry adjacent to Vail Mountain known as the East Vail Chutes, a place I've skied on and off with friends for the better part of a decade. The Jan. 4 death of 27-year-old Jesse Brigham came as a surprise to none of them. For different reasons, the death Friday of 33-year-old Matthew Gustafson did. While my condolences go out to family and friends of both, we shouldn't let the lessons from these tragedies die with them. In terms of protocol, both these guys and the parties they skied with appeared to do many things right. They had all the gear. They did some basic stability tests. They skied with partners and dropped in one at a time. But the question I hear — and find myself asking — time and again is, "What the heck were they doing there in the first place?" I understand the allure of the backcountry, or, in the case of East Vail, what I'd consider sidecountry.

THE CHEF: Gordon Ramsay is the only chef in London to hold three Michelin stars, with his eponymous flagship restaurant in the city's affluent Chelsea neighborhood. His empire spans Japan, Dubai and the U.S., where he has three restaurants including at New York's London hotel, which was recently awarded two Michelin stars. KNOWN FOR: Mr. Ramsay has made a name for himself serving up modern British-French cuisine. But the former professional soccer player has established a reputation among a much wider audience as a fiery-tempered, foul-mouthed chef through his reality cooking television shows. At home, however, he emphasizes the importance of social skills with his four children (who range in age from 6 to 9 years of age) by regularly sitting down with them to Sunday lunch. Mr. Ramsay, who grew up with the family-lunch tradition, sees it as an important ritual for his children to learn manners as well as discuss anything that has upset them.
